I have had the D300 since the first day of release. The color set is truly beautiful. I have tried Vivid +2 or 3 with other cameras for brilliant color. All have looked strange but the D300 the rendition is saturated and stunning - even the skin tones are pleasing. I do this for an effect and when done properly - it is very pleasing to the eye.
