Pro shooter for 30+ years. Retired, put away my f3s and just was using a D70s to shoot my kid. Got the D300, what a difference!! Night and day. So much cleaner and clearer, better color, better layout of controls, just... better. Didn't see a reason to buy the big boy, the D700 would have required buying new lenses (my old ones are AI manual focus, so I've been using D lenses). Bought the D300.
